Valerio Jud thrilled the home crowd by winning gold in the Men’s Snowboard Cross at the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Villars Winter Park.

17-year-old Jud from Uznach, who cites his only hobby as snowboarding, edged out Germany’s Niels Conradt in a fierce battle for the gold medal.

Jud, in the red bib, emerged victorious by 0.13 seconds. Bronze medal winner, Alvaro Romero of Spain was a further eight seconds behind.
