Anna Shpyneva of Russia won the first ski jumping gold of the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) at the Les Tuffes Nordic Centre in the French Alps.

Going into the second and final jump, Shpyneva was lying in the silver medal position behind France’s Josephine Pagnier. Neither athlete jumped as well as they had done earlier in the day but 18-year-old Shpyneva held her form better, edging out her French rival for the gold medal.

Shpyneva was awarded 229.6 points, 6.8 points ahead of Pagnier. Stepanka Ptackova of the Czech Republic won bronze.
