STORY SCRIPT:

Italy’s Giorgia Speciale has added Youth Olympic Gold to her six World Junior titles and six European titles after victory in the women’s Techno 293+ class in Buenos Aires 2018.

She dominated the six days of competition from start to finish and knew only a disaster would prevent her claiming Gold in the final race. Manon Pianazza of France and Russia’s Yana Reznikova joined her on the podium.

Italy were denied double gold by Greece’s Alexandros Kalpogiannakis who won the men’s Techno 293+ class, ahead of Italy’s Nicolo Renna and Finn Hawkins of Great Britain.

Kalpogiannakis dominated the event all week and went into the final race with a healthy lead over the field. Battling the light winds at Club Nautico San Isidro, he finished the final race of the week in seventh, but that was more than enough for him to top the podium.
