The final of the men’s futsal at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires took place on Thursday (18th October) with Brazil taking on Russia.

Russia had beaten Egypt 3-1 in their semi-final on Monday (13th October) while Brazil had edged past the host nation 3-2, to book their place in the gold medal match.

Russia suffered an unfortunate start to the match with Danil Karpuik scoring an own goal inside the opening two minutes.

That handed the initiative immediately to Brazil but despite dominating much of the first half, they were unable to score again. Brazil lead by just 1 goal to nil at the break.

As the second half got underway, Brazil scored twice to put them firmly in control of the match.

The first came from Breno Bertoline-Dengal, scored off an assist from Guilherme Borges-Sanches. It was Dengal’s fifth goal of the tournament.  Then Matheus Moura- Batista found the back of the net to take the score to 3-0.

Danil Samusenko scored for Russia with 90 seconds of the match remaining, but any slender hopes of a recovery were ended when goalkeeper Francoar de Oliveira-Rodrigues claimed another for Brazil in the final minute of the match. Final score Brazil 3-1 Russia.

Gold to Brazil, Silver to Russia, Bronze went to Egypt who edged past Argentina 5-4 earlier in the day.
