Description

The IOC offers the following Video News Release to all news agencies, broadcasters and online news platforms free of charge.

As an athlete Kitty Chiller was one of the first women to compete in the Olympic Games modern pentathlon, at Sydney 2000. Since then she’s continued to trailblaze for women in sport, and became in 2016 the first-ever female Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic team.

“Barriers are barriers if you let them be barriers to yourself” says Kitty. “I believe that all of us, no matter our gender, no matter where we are, should just try to be the best person that you can be, and achieve and maximise whatever opportunities you’ve been given.”

Kitty’s commitment to advancing the cause of women in sport began in her 20s when she joined the Victorian Women’s Council – an Australian regional body committed to promoting women’s rights.

She’s since become a highly regarded international sports administrator, sitting on the IOC Athletes’ Entourage Commission, and the executive boards of the Australian Olympic Committee, the International Modern Pentathlon Union and the International Gymnastics Federation.
