Nanjing 2014

Nanjing 2014 is the second edition of the summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the premier international event for young athletes ages 15 to 18 to compete at the highest level while providing valuable skills and experiences for their future careers.
Off the field of play, there is an interactive programme of workshops to provide the athletes with skills and experiences for them to share with their friends, families and communities, to be true champions in and out of competition. Supporting the Youth Olympic Games are 38 Athlete Role Models, Olympians who want to share their advice with the next generation of athletes. In addition, 104 Young Ambassadors guide the athletes through the YOG experience and a team of Young Reporters provide coverage from broadcast to blog.
Some of the biggest names in sport help raise the profile of the YOG through promotional campaigns and meeting with the athletes during the Games. Our new YOG ambassadors are:
Chad le Clos – The South African swimmer won 5 medals at the inaugural Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, and went on to become Olympic 200m butterfly Champion at London 2012.
Michelle Wie – The American golfer was the youngest ever player to qualify for a USGA (United States Golf Association) tournament, aged just 10. A recent US Open champion and four-time LPGA tour victor.
Yao Ming – Chinese national Yao Ming enjoyed an illustrious eight year career with the Houston Rockets of the NBA (National Basketball Association), prompting a huge influx of interest from China.
